Title: Three Houses, 2016

Medium: Stoneware, glaze, wood fired

Dimension: 12”, 4x4 / 9” smallest 5”2x3

Statement: “Stepping away from my usual functional ware, I have been creating whimsical clay houses. I use a slab building technique and only apply glaze on the roofs. The rich surface of these houses is achieved by firing in a wood fueled kiln.”

Artist: Dawn Hackett-Burns

Title:  Keystroke, 2071

Medium: porcelain with a shino glaze / Dimension: 4”x 6”

Statement: “This is an example of a small lidded pot, fired in the gas kiln. It has a shino glaze, which exhibits the effects of reduction firing.  The oxygen-starved environment inside the kiln during the firing extracts oxygen from the glaze and clay body to keep the flame burning.  When things go well, the result is dark greyish-greenish-black colours on the pot, where carbon is trapped within the glaze. On the day of this firing, the kiln gods must have smiled on us and gave me this piece demonstrating the effects of a shino glaze and a good atmospheric firing.

Title: Thoughts Running Through my Garden, 2017,

Medium: clay and wire / Dimension, h. 23 cm, w. 18 cm, d. 19 cm

Statement: “For this piece, I link the behavior of the ecosystem of a garden to the structure of human thoughts. In order to absorb something new, be it nutrients in plants or knowledge for an individual, you have to let something go so there can be space for renovation and growth.”

Artist: Kim Ross

Title: Road to Town, 2019,

Medium: Stoneware, glaze, underglaze / Dimension: 12”

Statement: “This landscape is a result of not wanting to throw out “leftovers” from glaze tests from a previous project.”

Current Artist: Monika Schaefer

Title:  The Afflicted, 2015

Medium: Stoneware, iron, wood / Dimension: 32”x11”x11”

Statement: “Companion to the One-Eyed Queen. ‘The Afflicted’ stands on a weak stick leg with painful twig protrusions from his knee but his Iron leg is strong. He is content with contradiction.”
