Monique Campbell
Monique Campbell, she/her is a street and fine art photographer from Hamilton, Ontario which is situated upon the traditional territories of the Erie, Neutral, Huron-Wendat, Haudenosaunee and Mississaugas. Monique chooses to chase the light that shines through the cracks illuminating the world through her soulful images. Her personal story lies within each image but it is not hers alone allowing others to identify with their own narratives. Finding interest by observing the mundane, the ordinary and the moments most people take for granted, she excels in producing captivating photographs that linger in the minds of viewers.
In 1994, the Canadian Press awarded her Runner-up Picture of the Year for her spot news photograph of a firefighter reviving a child. Her image, “Perspective” of Mennonites at the Welland Canal was chosen by Le Salon des Beaux Arts de la Société Nationale des Beaux Arts in Paris, France and exhibited at the Carrousel du Louvre in 2018. In 2021, her photograph "Venetian Laundry Day" was chosen as a finalist in the Salt Spring National Art Prize.
