Natalia Shields
My love of art started with a short-lived try at fashion design, blossoming into a passion for photography during a teaching career that included the Visual Arts. A multi-media course at the beginning of the digital era saw me transition from film photography directly into the digital realm. I never looked back! No doubt my childhood on a farm plus an avid interest in geography account for my love of landscape, nature photography and tree portraits in particular. I hope my tree images inspire an appreciation for their beauty and their contribution to life on our planet.
After a teaching career including visual arts, today I reside in the Niagara region, continuing my photography practice with unabated passion. I’ve exhibited my work since 2010 around the GTA, and now, in the Golden Horseshoe area. Active in the Arts community, I’m a former, original member of Toronto’s f8 Photography Collective, a current member of Women's Art Association of Canada, Niagara Pumphouse Art Centre and Latow Photography Guild. Since 2014, I've served on the Pelham Art Festival Committee in various capacities. My post secondary education: BA., Fine Arts Theme, York Univ; B. ED., U.of T.
